Gum health

Assessment, treatment and practical advice to help you look after your gums.

Airflow and hygiene

Professional cleaning with a plan that fits your mouth and your needs.

White fillings

Repairing decay and damaged teeth while preserving healthy tooth structure where possible.

Prevention comes first

Dan wants you to understand your mouth, not just leave with cleaner teeth.

He’ll show you where plaque is collecting, explain what your gums are telling him and help you find a cleaning routine you can keep up at home. That might mean changing your brushing technique, finding interdental brushes that fit or making an uncomfortable part of your routine easier.

His aim is to help you prevent problems wherever possible and keep on top of the ones you already have.

“I believe that prevention should always be the foundation of dental care, even if it means spending more time educating patients than providing treatment.”

Worried about bleeding gums?

Bleeding when you brush or clean between your teeth is a reason to have your gums checked. Dan will ask about your symptoms, assess your gum health and explain what he finds.

If you need treatment, he’ll talk you through the professional cleaning, changes at home and follow-up visits that are right for you. X-rays may be needed to assess the bone supporting your teeth.

Early gum inflammation can often improve with effective cleaning. More advanced gum disease needs ongoing care to control it and reduce the risk of further damage. Dan monitors how your gums respond and recognises when you need a specialist opinion.

Airflow, hygiene or a check-up?

You don’t have to know exactly what to book before you speak to us. Tell us what’s bothering you and we’ll help you choose the right appointment.

Hygiene appointments

These focus on your gum health, cleaning your teeth and helping you manage plaque at home. The treatment depends on what your assessment shows.

Airflow cleaning

Airflow uses air, water and a fine powder to remove dental biofilm and surface staining. Dan enjoys using it as part of a patient’s hygiene care. Other instruments may still be needed to remove hard deposits.

Dental check-ups

A check-up assesses your wider oral health, including your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth. X-rays are taken when clinically needed. A hygiene appointment does not replace a full examination.

Nervous? Tell Dan.

If you’ve had a difficult dental experience, sensitive teeth or a long gap between appointments, Dan wants to understand what worries you.

He’ll explain what he’s doing, agree a signal so you can ask him to stop and give you time when you need it. If treatment is sensitive, he can discuss ways to make it more comfortable, including local anaesthetic where appropriate.

You do not need to apologise for your teeth or wait until they look better before coming in.

“Don’t be afraid, don’t be embarrassed.”

What happens at your appointment?

  1. Tell him what’s going on

Dan asks about your symptoms, previous dental care and anything that makes you anxious. He’ll also discuss relevant health conditions and habits that may affect your mouth.

  2. Understand your teeth and gums

He assesses what needs attention and explains the findings in plain English. If further examination, X-rays or another clinician’s advice are needed, he’ll explain why.

  3. Agree the next step

You’ll discuss your options before treatment begins. Depending on the appointment and what he finds, treatment may start that day or be planned for a later visit.

  4. Leave knowing what to do

Dan will explain your aftercare, help with your home cleaning routine and recommend when to return.

Healthy teeth before cosmetic treatment

Before braces, implants or cosmetic treatment, your teeth and gums need the right care.

Dan works with the wider Smileworks team to treat gum inflammation and decay where needed before more complex treatment begins. He also helps patients maintain their oral health during and after treatment.

If you need advice about a missing tooth, teeth that have moved or another concern outside his care, he can involve the right clinician.

Repairing teeth and caring for smiles

Dan provides white fillings and restorative care, with an emphasis on preserving healthy tooth structure wherever possible.

His work also includes children’s dental care, preventive advice and helping patients develop habits that protect their teeth as they grow.

He enjoys supporting patients through teeth whitening, provided under a dentist’s prescription and with the required supervision. If you’re thinking about changing your smile, he’ll help you understand the next step and who you need to see.

Qualifications

Dan trained in dental hygiene and therapy at the Greater Manchester School for Dental Care Professionals in Salford.

What matters to Dan

Dan enjoys seeing patients become more confident as their oral health improves. Clear explanations and a patient who feels listened to matter just as much to him as the treatment itself.

“The biggest thing for me is patient satisfaction.”
