Dr Hossam Hafez is our dentist with a special interest in endodontics. He has 12 years of experience, and root canals are all he does.
He’s precise, fast and efficient. He knows where the difficult bits are and where to spend the extra time.
He also listens. If you’re thinking “what if it doesn’t go numb?” or “what if I feel it?”, tell him. If something happened at another dentist, he wants to hear about that too.
Hossam looks at the whole tooth—not just the canals. Can it be restored? Can it work properly afterwards? Is saving it a sensible option? That judgement matters as much as the treatment itself. Being good at root canals also means knowing when one is worth doing.

Root canal treatment gives us a way to save teeth that might otherwise need to come out. It treats damaged or infected tissue inside the tooth, allowing us to keep the healthy structure that remains.
A broken tooth, an infection or pain when you bite doesn’t tell us the whole story. We need to examine it, look at any appropriate X-rays and work out whether we can restore it.
If there’s a sensible way to save your tooth, we’ll explain it. If it can’t be saved, we’ll tell you why and talk through your other options.

What happens during root canal treatment?
We find out what’s wrong.
We examine the tooth, take any appropriate X-rays and explain what we find. You’ll know the options and the cost before deciding.
We get you comfortable.
We use local anaesthetic to numb the area and check before starting.
Hossam treats the canals.
He removes the damaged or infected tissue, then cleans, fills and seals the canals inside the roots. Some teeth need more than one visit.
We restore and protect the tooth.
A final filling or crown helps you use it again and protects what remains.
Many appointments take around an hour. We’ll explain how long yours is likely to take and whether you’ll need to come back.

Root canal treatment cleans and seals the canals inside your tooth. Your quote will explain the filling or core included and the full proposed cost before treatment begins.
A new crown, if needed — from £977.50.If you need a new crown afterwards, that is separate treatment with a separate cost. We’ll explain both parts before you decide.

After your root canal treatment
Let’s look after the tooth we’ve worked to save.
The tooth can feel tender after treatment. We’ll explain what to expect, what you can eat and how to keep it clean while it settles.
If you need to come back for a final filling or crown, keep that appointment. Finishing the tooth properly matters.
After that, keep up your cleaning and regular dental visits. If pain gets worse, swelling develops or you feel unwell, contact us for advice.
Your root canal questions, answered.
I really don’t want to lose my tooth. Can you save it?
We’ll assess it and give you an honest answer. Sometimes there isn’t enough healthy tooth left, or another problem means root canal treatment is unlikely to work. If there’s a sensible way to save it, we’ll talk you through it.
Will I need a crown as well?
You might. It depends on the tooth and how much healthy structure remains. We’ll explain what we recommend, why and what it costs.
Would it be easier to just have it taken out?
Removing the tooth may be an option. But it leaves a gap and a decision about whether to replace it. We’ll explain what saving it would involve and what taking it out would mean, so you can decide.
I’ve already had a root canal and it still hurts. What now?
Get it checked. We’ll assess the tooth and work out what’s causing the problem. Sometimes further root canal treatment is possible; sometimes a different approach or referral is needed.
Will antibiotics sort it out?
Antibiotics don’t replace treatment of the source of an infection. A dentist may prescribe them when appropriate, but you still need the tooth assessed.
How long will I be in the chair?
Many appointments take around an hour. Some teeth need longer or more than one visit. A final filling or crown may need a separate appointment. We’ll explain what to expect for your tooth.
Can I ask about sedation?
You can ask us whether sedation could be suitable for you. Tell our team if you’re anxious. They’ll confirm whether it can be arranged for your root canal treatment, its availability and any separate costs before you decide.
