Sensitive Teeth

What causes sensitive teeth?

Sensitivity can be caused by many things and the dental hygiene therapist is the person to diagnose the cause of sensitivity.  Smileworks have an extremely busy and effective hygiene department.  We only hire dental hygiene therapists because they are highly qualified and can help our patients with gum health and sensitivity.

Any pain in your mouth is usually bad news so it’s important to see the hygienist regularly so we can spot small problems before they become big ones.  Here at Smileworks our Therapists are extremely well qualified and take your gum health and happiness very seriously.  Patients love coming for their routine appointments and feel confident they’ve got their dental health under control and are being looked after by the best in the business.

You can read here about the more common causes of tooth sensitivity:

Another popular reason for dental pain and sensitivity can be a failing tooth filling which you can learn about by following the link.

Finally your sensitivity might be caused by a hot nerve and you may need a root canal

Smileworks have more Google reviews than any other dental practice in the UK.  Here are some of our favourites from the hygiene department.

The team at Smileworks have treated me for a few years now and the care has been outstanding. All the staff are really friendly and helpful, especially working around my shifts to give me appointments. Eduardo is very professional, knowledgeable and... approachable. He treated my TMJ pain with braces and was very thorough on assessing and adjusting my braces during all the appointments. It feels great to have them off, I have such lovely teeth with no jaw pain. I fully trust the staff and would also like to thank Liv and jay who are always smiling at reception and making you laugh and smile too! Today I saw Kal and Jo for my checkup, scale & polish. The care given was 10/10 and I think Kal is definitely an asset to the team. Thank you all, you are a wonderful team of highly competent professionalsread more

Seriously the worst dental clinic I’ve ever been to. I’ve been visiting this clinic for around 5 years and during that time they messed up my teeth. They did my fillings horribly which did affect my teeth. I did frequent check ups with them, they... overlooked the fact that I needed 2 root canals. When deep cleaning they also don’t polish properly.read more

Problems with the tooth root

Take a look at our main page on root canals here:  Root Canal Liverpool

Sensitivity can be caused by infected or inflamed tooth roots and this is something that needs dealing with right away. Sometimes a little bit of sensitivity can spell big trouble in your roots and this could mean endodontic treatment.  This is where your dentist will remove the infected root and replace it with an inert filling material to stop pain and prevent further infection or damage.
