Dr Eduardo Banito and Dr Ana Rocha both hold an MClinDent in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. They assess the movements your teeth need, explain the choices and monitor progress through treatment.
Eduardo’s practice is all orthodontics. Ana brings a calm approach that helps nervous patients feel comfortable asking questions. Both look beyond straight front teeth to how your teeth fit together and how the result will be maintained.

What are Spark aligners?
Spark is a clear aligner system made by Ormco. Each set of custom-made trays moves your teeth a little further through a planned sequence. Patients often call them “trays” rather than aligners.
They fit over your teeth and are designed to be discreet. Spark’s TruGEN™ material is designed for clarity and stain resistance, with smooth, polished edges for comfort. That does not make the trays stain-proof or mean you will feel no pressure when your teeth move.
Spark is prescribed and supervised by a dental clinician. The digital model helps plan treatment; your teeth, gums and bite still need assessing in person.
Could Spark work for my teeth?
Spark can be considered for crowded teeth, gaps and some bite misalignments. It can also be an option when teeth have moved after previous braces. This is called orthodontic relapse.
We look at three practical questions before recommending it.
Can the trays deliver the movements you need?
A tooth that looks slightly crooked may need more than a small cosmetic adjustment. We assess its position and how it meets the teeth in the opposite jaw. Some plans need attachments or elastics to help control movement.
Selected overbite, deep bite, crossbite, open bite and underbite cases can be treated with aligners. The name of the bite problem alone does not tell us whether Spark is the right approach for you.
Are your teeth and gums ready?
We assess oral health and the support around your teeth before moving them. Gum disease or other dental problems may need treatment first. We also consider how to make space and how to keep the result stable afterwards.
Will daily wear fit your life?
Removable aligners need consistent wear. Talk to us about work, meals, snacking or anything that could make the routine difficult. If wearing trays as prescribed would be unrealistic, fixed braces may give us a more dependable way to carry out treatment.

Spark aligners vs Invisalign: which should I choose?
Both use a sequence of clear, removable aligners. Both need clinical planning, monitoring and consistent wear. They are different systems with different materials and planning software, rather than two names for the same product.
At Smileworks, Spark has a lower starting price: Spark Lite starts from £4,000, compared with Invisalign Lite from £4,800. Your own quote depends on the treatment you need and what it includes.
Spark’s clarity and smooth edges may appeal to you. But a brand comparison cannot tell us which movements will work best in your mouth. We’ll explain our recommendation and what each suitable option would involve.

How much do Spark aligners cost?
Your assessment helps us determine the appropriate treatment. Lite is for suitable, more limited treatment; Full allows for more comprehensive treatment. We’ll explain which plan fits your teeth rather than asking you to choose a package yourself.
When comparing Spark aligners cost in the UK, look beyond the headline price. Ask about the assessment, monitoring appointments, refinement trays and retainers, as well as any other dentistry you may need.
Your written treatment plan confirms your fee and inclusions before you commit. Complimentary whitening gel is currently provided with orthodontic treatment; we’ll confirm its suitability and timing for you.

Can I spread the cost?
Finance is available through Medenta Finance. Options can include 0% APR and interest-bearing plans, subject to affordability, age and status; minimum spend applies. Our treatment coordinator will explain the deposit, monthly payments and total repayable for your plan.

How Spark aligners work at Smileworks
Your consultation
Tell us what bothers you about your teeth and what you would like to change. Eduardo or Ana examines your alignment, bite and oral health, using photographs, scans or X-rays where appropriate. You’ll discuss suitability, likely timing and cost.
3D imaging and digital planning
A digital scan creates a model of your teeth. Spark’s Approver™ software helps your clinician plan the sequence of movements and show you the proposed result. The simulation is a treatment plan, not a guarantee of an exact outcome.
Your custom aligners
Once the plan is agreed, your aligners are made. At fitting, we check the trays and show you how to put them in, take them out and care for them. We also explain any attachments, elastics or other steps included in your plan.
Wearing your trays and checking progress
You usually change to a new set every one to two weeks, following your clinician’s instructions. Regular reviews check the fit, tooth movement and oral health. Our existing Spark pathway commonly uses reviews around six to eight weeks apart, adjusted to your needs.
Finishing and retainers
Some teeth need further adjustments after the first series of trays. Additional aligners are called refinements. When active treatment is complete, retainers help hold the new positions. We’ll explain your retention plan and how to follow it.
What are attachments, IPR and refinements?
These are the details worth understanding before you start.
Attachments
Attachments are small tooth-coloured composite shapes bonded to selected teeth. They give the aligner something to grip for particular movements. They stay on your teeth when the trays come out, and may be visible up close.
Elastics
Elastics are small rubber bands used in some plans to help with bite correction. If you need them, we’ll show you where they attach and when to wear them.
IPR
IPR, or interproximal reduction, creates a measured amount of space by removing a small amount of enamel between selected teeth. You may hear it called slenderising or “filing between the teeth”. It is not needed in every case and is irreversible, so we explain the reason and alternatives before you agree.
Tracking
Tracking describes whether your teeth are following the planned movements and fitting the trays as intended. A tray that stops seating properly needs attention.
Refinements
Refinements are additional trays used to adjust tooth positions or the bite. They are not automatically a sign that treatment has gone wrong. They can add time, which is why the number of trays in your first box is not always your final treatment length.
What is everyday life with Spark like?
You wear your aligners during the day and while sleeping. Remove them for meals, drinks other than plain water, and cleaning. Keep them in their case when they are out.
Coffee breaks, long lunches and frequent snacks all use up time out of the trays. Planning them into your day makes consistent wear easier. You can still enjoy your usual foods with the aligners removed.
Brush and floss your teeth, and clean the trays as instructed. If an edge rubs, an attachment comes off or taking a tray out is difficult, contact us. You have a team to ask rather than having to work it out alone.
Spark aligners: your questions answered
Are Spark aligners as good as Invisalign?
Both are professionally prescribed clear aligner systems. Spark is a credible option, but neither brand is best for every case. We’ll recommend treatment according to your teeth, bite, required movements and priorities, and explain the reasoning.
How long does Spark treatment take?
Many Spark plans take around 12–18 months, but straightforward treatment may be shorter and complex cases or refinements can take longer. We’ll give you an estimate for your own teeth. Seeing an early change does not mean your bite is ready to finish.
Do I really have to wear them for 22 hours a day?
That is Spark’s usual recommendation, including overnight. The trays need time on your teeth to work. Follow the schedule we prescribe, and tell us if you are struggling so we can help before it affects progress.
Will Spark aligners hurt at first?
New trays can feel tight and your teeth may be tender as they begin moving. Removing them around attachments can also take practice. We’ll show you how. Contact us about significant or persistent pain rather than forcing a tray or trying to push through it.
Will people see the attachments?
They may notice them up close. The trays are clear and attachments are tooth-coloured, but treatment is not completely invisible. We’ll explain where attachments are planned so you know what to expect before committing.
Will I have a lisp?
You may notice a temporary change in speech while getting used to the trays. Tell us if your job involves a lot of talking or you have an important event coming up. If speech remains difficult, let us check the fit and discuss it with you.
Can I drink tea or coffee with Spark in?
Take your trays out for tea and coffee. Stain resistance does not mean they should stay in for every drink. Plain water is the usual exception. Clean your teeth as advised before putting the aligners back in.
What if a tray doesn’t fit or a tooth isn’t tracking?
Contact us before moving to the next tray. We need to check what has changed and whether the wear schedule, fit or plan needs adjusting. A visible gap between a tooth and its tray is a reason to ask us, not to guess.
Are refinements and retainers included in the price?
We’ll confirm both in your written quote. Ask us to explain how additional trays are handled, which retainers are included and what replacements would cost. We want you to understand the full plan before you start.
I had braces before and my teeth moved. Could Spark help?
It may. We’ll check which teeth have moved, how your bite now fits and what treatment is needed. We’ll also discuss retainers from the outset so maintaining the result is part of the plan.
What if I lose or break an aligner?
Call us for advice. Whether to replace it or change the schedule depends on where you are in treatment. Keep your previous trays, but ask us which to wear rather than jumping ahead yourself.
Do I need to know whether I want Spark before booking?
No. Your £90 assessment is where we help you decide. Bring your questions and tell us what you want to change. You’ll leave with a recommendation, likely timescale and written cost, with time to consider your options.
