As these treatments are popular together.
Put simply, everyone should have their teeth whitened, and if you are looking for cosmetic dental work, Teeth whitening is a great place to start. Our Liverpool teeth whitening patients are always super-happy and our Teeth whitening is quick, lasts for ages and comes with a 100% guarantee. We don’t do ‘laser teeth whitening’ at Smileworks simply because it doesn’t work very well compared with tray-based treatments. Most people will be suitable for Enlighten teeth whitening or Flightwhite (both tray-based teeth whitening systems) that will get you from any shade of yellow and brown to brilliant white.
If things are seriously difficult, or you have grey teeth that don’t respond to normal bleaching our dentists can also use something called ‘internal bleaching’ which will get all your teeth (even the damaged or non-vital ones) to the shade you want. Our patients are describing Enlighten teeth whitening as “the eighth wonder of the world” and “absolute top quality”, So don’t take your chances at the salon, come and get teeth whitening at Smileworks and become an overnight sensation with your brilliant white smile.
Smileworks’ official teeth whitening system. The kit uses Enlighten gel for brilliant results and comes with a swag-bag full of Smileworks goodies. Teeth Whitening Prices for 2017-2018
Teeth whitening is only available privately and you won't be able to get it on the NHS. Prices are variable depending on where you choose to have treatment and what type of trays and gel you choose. Generally, Budget whitening should cost around £100-£200 whereas comprehensive whitening will cost anywhere between £300-£600. For our smileworks prices see below.
Composite Veneers: Many of our patients who come along for teeth whitening treatments are interested to hear about composite bonding. This is a remarkable new dental technique where composite material is fashioned over the teeth to make them perfect, symmetrical or appear straighter. Once you are finished with your whitening and your teeth are the perfect shade, your dentist can sculpt your teeth with composite to give the appearance of a smile makeover. Patients love the two treatments together and with the cost of composites being as little as £100 a tooth, it’s no wonder why.
Take a look at our gallery below. Some of these patients have had composite bonding, some have had full composite veneers and others have had braces treatment with composite bonding.
Did you know patients also frequently get Botox treatment above their top lip to reduce the appearance of gums when they smile. This procedure lowers the smile line and creates a beautiful Hollywood Smile. Botox can also be used in muscles called the ‘depressors’ around the mouth to bring out the width of a smile and create a more beautiful appearance. For more information on Facial Aesthetics and Botox treatment take a look at our main page “Botox Liverpool” here. Some patient also commonly wish to further enhance their smile with injectable lip fillers and semi permanent lip blush. These are two extremely complementary procedures that go very well with whitening.
What’s it Like at Smileworks?
Any DIY dentistry is bad news. Whether it be Illegal whitening or clip on veneers it’s bad for everyone. Here’s some advice to help keep you safe so you don’t end up needing emergency treatment.
There are a number of different bleaching kits on the market and the good ones will only be available from your dentist. There are tons of great whitening companies like Enlighten®, Zoom® and Opalescence® . Your dentist will probably have a favourite and this can be down to factors like cost (including how much the kits cost and how much your patients want to pay), strength and the side effects. Some whitening products make teeth more sensitive than others although this is usually very much down to the individual having the whitening. There are also two main types of whitening. Tray based and ‘Laser’ whitening.
But first let’s clear some things up. Laser whitening does not involve ‘lasers’ at all. The ‘lamp’ is actually a heat lamp like the one that warms your breakfast at the service station. The heat from the lamp increases the rate of the chemical reaction on your teeth and causes the bleaching to happen more quickly. This comes with some downsides that we will discuss later. Then there’s the tray based whitening. This is where you get trays made and put the gel in them at night time. This is a more gradual process and some say creates a more even, natural shade.
We happen to agree with this and since laser whitening also requires that you take home trays, we’re down in favour of tray-based whitening any day of the week. Patients will often be worried because they want their teeth whitened immediately. However, one or two nights with trays will get you to a better shade than an hour under the lamp. Lasers have fallen out of favour lately with practitioners because they take up a great deal of time and you’ll need to be using trays anyway so many feel that the lasers are becoming a bit of a novelty. Then there’s the dentists who swear by them. And the choice as always, is yours.
Here at Smileworks we only use the very best quality products and have decided to go with tray based, Enlighten® whitening over Zoom®. We believe that the results are better and patients certainly report less sensitivity with Enlighten products. After all there’s no point if you won’t wear your trays at night because it hurts too much! Our at-home whitening kits are designed for those who prefer to perform the treatment themselves, in the comfort of their own homes and in their own time.
Smileworks have two different systems, and both are at-home treatments which use peroxide gel for optimal brightness. The patented technology means there is low risk of sensitivity, and the results are maintainable for life. All whitening gel is peroxide or ‘Carbamide’. They are basically the same as Carbamide gets turned into peroxide once it’s in your mouth.
This was described as the ‘Rolls Royce of Whitening’ in a Daily mail article testing out different types of whitening and we’re a massive fan here at Smileworks. Enlighten Evo3 is the safest and most effective bleaching system in the world. It’s the only system to guarantee a B1 shade, which is the lightest, brightest shade possible for a tooth. So if your teeth don’t reach B1 we will just keep giving you gel until they do. If we fail (which we never do) then Payman Langrudi, the developer of Enlighten and an esteemed dentist will take your case on personally. Pretty awesome we think.
Here at our beautiful practice, an impression will be made of your teeth. This impression will be transformed into a plastic, retainer-like tray in the hands of a dental lab specialist. You are given with your tray and Enlighten peroxide gel, which is to be inserted into each tooth in the device, and worn overnight for two weeks. Patients always worry that they are not going to do it correctly or spit out the trays but this never happens. The gel tastes nice – like sweets – and you’ll notice an immediate difference the next morning.
Our Evo3 system also offers an in-office session with the dentist. Performed in a professional setting, the treatment uses hydrogen peroxide gel to produce immediate results in very little time. At the end of the treatment, your teeth will be noticeably whiter. This in office treatment comes as part of the Evo3 product and uses gel that is stronger and needs professional supervision.
Smileworks’ Flightwhite system is our official whitening package, and by far our most popular whitening treatment. It is an easy at-home system that comes complete with custom-made trays from our practice. This kit uses Enlighten peroxide gel for brilliant results. Similar to the Evo3 treatment, this carbamide peroxide gel is squeezed into each tooth in the tray, and the device is worn 2-4 hours every night for a few weeks. The difference is that the trays are made by our own lab and not the fancy enlighten lab. This means the trays are not the precise quality of the Enlighten made trays but the gel is the same.
90% of patients get the same result from Flightwhite and we use it to help people save money who have a simple whitening case that is unlikely to throw up and difficulties to get you to B1. Flightwhite is Ideal for those who want a stress-free whitening treatment that is extremely good value.
Enlighten is the only whitening system in the world to guarantee results. The whitening process can take up to a few weeks, giving you greater control over the lightening process. In the first week you use a 10% gel and then for the second you use 16% – the strongest gel allowable in law (even for dentists!). You will however, notice results immediately and the whitening will happen gradually over the two weeks.
Results are maintainable for life, provided you manage and sustain good oral hygiene at home, and attend your regular check-up and hygiene appointments at Smileworks. All you need to do is keep hold of your whitening trays and buy new gels when you need. Each gel syringe has enough in it for one week, although patients report making them last a great deal longer than this by being sparing with them.
Smileworks’ at-home whitening systems are a much gentler, more gradual process than in-office treatment. The benefits are all in the results, such as a more consistent shade and less sensitivity. You are in control of the process, which means you can whiten as much or as little as you like in the comfort of your home.
In contrast, light-based whitening can dehydrate the teeth, whereas Smileworks’ tray-based systems are gentler to the enamel and result in much less dehydration of the teeth. This means the colour is more stable for longer, and will keep you smiling. Dehydration can lead to a frosty whiteness that looks unnatural. It’s interesting when people say they ‘don’t want their teeth toowhite’. Patients are usually referring to this frosty whiteness that looks unnatural. Most patients will return time and time again for whitening gel because they want their teeth very white indeed! You will be able to refresh your whitening whenever you need to. Top-up gels are available from our practice providing you have started your whitening with us and kept up with your regular check-up appointments.
At-home whitening is a very low-risk treatment; the side effects are simply sensitivity and sometimes slightly sore gums. This can be from putting too much gel in the trays or grinding your teeth in the night. But don’t worry, your gums will never get burned or damaged. In fact, the research shows that the carbamide actually helps your gum health because it kills harmful bacteria in your mouth. One of the reasons it’s so important to see a qualified dentist about your whitening is because they will be able to fully check your mouth and diagnose any gum disease that might require treatment prior to your whitening. If you are looking for gum disease treatment then follow the link to our main gums and oral hygiene page.
Smileworks’ Evo3 whitening system includes Enlighten Tooth Serum. It is best used whilst your trays are busy being made by lab specialists, as well as during the whitening treatment. This serum was created to reduce sensitivity, and should be used daily as your fluoride toothpaste to repair and protect teeth (as well as prolong the whitening effect). Post-treatment, Enlighten Evo-white Toothpaste should be used to remove stains and to maintain excellent oral health. Evo-white maintains the results of the Enlighten treatments through the unique combination of enzymatic and gentle abrasive action.
Over the counter whitening treatments don’t work. They can help make your teeth look white and clean for a very short time but this does not last. There is, unfortunately no substitute for professional whitening (and we’ve tried every single whitening toothpaste imaginable!).
Smileworks don’t do laser whitening. We don’t see the point. Laser whitening was great before the EU whitening Directive came into force controlling the strength of whitening gels. You used to be able to nuke the teeth for 40 minutes with very strong gel and although causing crippling sensitivity, this worked very well.
Now that we all must use maximum 6% peroxide or 16% carbamide gel, there is literally nothing to gain from sitting under the lamp. Zoom now give patients trays and claim that they will get very little benefit from the lamp alone. This fits with our experience here at Smileworks. Plus, one night with Enlighten is likely to get you better results than going under the lamp. So we find that patients are disappointed paying £300 for Zoom and then needing to go home with trays anyway. There are other disadvantages of ‘lasers’. Many people get severe sensitivity and don’t like coming back time and time again for 40 minute appointments.
Illegal and potentially dangerous whitening products are still being sold online despite websites agreeing to abolish them from sale. Retailers like Amazon and eBay agreed to remove the merchandise—which experts say can burn the gums and leave dark stains on the teeth—after reviewing evidence from their consumers. Some of these products contained as much as 44% carbamide peroxide—equivalent to roughly 150 times the legal limit of hydrogen peroxide. Smileworks’ Evolution gel is 16% carbamide peroxide, which gives you an idea how strong and potentially damaging these online products are. At Smileworks, we like to perform dentistry that lets us sleep at night. We only offer legal, low-risk whitening treatments that are guaranteed to produce results. To learn more about how to spot illegal whitening and stay safe take a look at the download on this page.
Teeth whitening pens are another method of applying peroxide-based gel. Many users are interested in their ease of use, but the main disadvantage to these pens is that they have a limited repository. Though pens often boast up to 50 uses, the reality is you will probably get 2-3 full applications’ worth before it is empty. It is not the most cost-effective solution for a complete treatment, and the stronger concentration of peroxide gel (22% and up) can cause increased sensitivity and a higher risk of burned gums.
White strips are another whitening system used today. However, much like whitening pens, sensitivity can happen when using these strips. One of the main detriments of whitening strips is that everyone’s teeth are different; therefore, it is difficult for strips reach the deeper corners of the mouth. Strips can be tricky to place, and can take a couple of tries to put on properly. Talking and moving your mouth can affect the fit of the strips, which may cause inconsistency in the brightness of your teeth.
